Rotherham 10k

Image alt Rotherham 10k was back on the 14th May, this is an edit of an Instagram post at the time. Another race which is an excuse to visit family (~4 hours each way means need a prompt to visit), it’s a hard course, start by running around Clifton Park and then onto the road to drop down into the town centre, out and back to Canklow, look up and think the Minster looks nice in the trees, back through the town centre and ouch Doncaster Gate is steep and then it’s the slog up Broom Road, so yeah from about 5km to 6k is uphill, then through Herringthorpe playing fields and back into Clifton Park to pretty much the Parkrun finish with that annoying drag.

Notice how I said “onto the road”? About 80% of the streets used were closed for the event, plenty of space at the start/finish area as it’s a park, warm up was done by a local gym and wasn’t cringeworthy (and you weren’t worrying about accidentally clocking the person next to you), local radio provided the stage and presenters doing the PA, local running clubs providing friendly marshalls it kind of feels like an event that’s missing about 1000 runners, there is space for them and it’s a hard 10k but it’s a nicely done 10k.

Happy with my run, under 45mins compared to the 47 on a much flatter course about a year ago, as I had no idea how the legs were post London. Next week’s Sutton 10k could be interesting.

Finally thanks to @rotherhamradioofficial for the tannoy announcement when I lost my sunglasses before the boss finished her run.
